Gay Lesbian PrideFirst, I should start off this post by saying that perhaps its content will offend some people.  If you think you are still interested, please read on.

I have been inspired to write this post by Ricky Martin's recent proclamation that he is officially a gay man.  Now, let me tell you something about myself.  Personally, I am happy when someone finally "comes out of the closet".  I think it is truly a terrible thing to live your life with a secret.  A secret which makes you pretend to the world that you are something you are not.  I know that as a mother, I only want the best for my own child.  I would never want her to be anything other than extremely happy and pursue that happiness with every bone in her body.  This is why it is refreshing and pleasant to hear when another human being puts down the burden they have been carrying and simply pursues their own personal truth.  Luckily, I have never had any troubles of this magnitude to have to deal with.  Several of my gay or lesbian friends have told me that their "coming out" moment has been one of the most defining moments of their lives.  So, to all of the celebrities out there who have publicly disclosed who they really are...KUDOS!

Now, of course, there are many celebrities who disclosed this information a little too late, in my opinion.  That is the real content of this post.  I mean, were we really surprised by the following celebrities publicly admitting that they are gay or lesbian?  Below is a list of celebrities that I was NOT SURPRISED IN THE LEAST to hear their declaration of sexual preference.  The only thing that surprised me about the following people was that they actually believed that anyone still thought them heterosexual!

Ricky Martin I don't know exactly what it is amount Mr. Martin, but this one was never a surprise. I guess he was just a little too pretty and groomed and with all of that "Living La Vida Loca" and "Shaking His Bon Bon", you had to see this one coming!
Clay Aiken From the moment I saw his audition tape for American Idol, I knew that Clay Aiken was not all he appeared to be. He definitely came across as sort of feminine and awkward with women. No surprise here!
George Michael I was a huge fan of Wham! back in the 80's, but even as a 9 year-old, I could tell that there was definitely something different between George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. It just seemed that George really enjoyed wearing those tiny shorts and day-glo gloves in the "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" video.
Rosie O'Donnell

I guess the first time I thought about her being a lesbian came while watching "A League of Their Own". She definitely seemed comfortable around the rest of that cast. I also used to watch her talk show and wasn't buying her utter devotion to Tom Cruise. Real devotion wouldn't describe him as a "cutie patootie".

Now, I'd also like to declare, in true Nostradamus fashion, a few other celebrities who I think will be publicly outing themselves sometime in the future. I have always considered the following celebrities homosexuals, and if they ever do out themselves publicly, I have to say that I won't be surprised.

Ryan Seacrest I can't understand why anyone would still think he is straight. I've always had this feeling about him, since he is extremely popular, but has never really been linked to any women. For me, though, it was confirmed without a doubt last season on Idol. When the beautiful bikini-clad girl hugged him and kissed him, Ryan had the look on his face as if he had just been covered in boogers!
Oprah Winfrey Oprah is a money making machine and I don't think she would ever risk coming out anytime soon, but I believe this whole Steadman thing is a front. Oprah could indeed have any man she wants and she keeps going out with Steadman? And he won't marry her? Please! This is one girl who is not buying that media ploy!
Kevin Spacey I love Kevin Spacey as an actor, but admit that he often comes across a tad on the feminine side. I was never sure about his sexuality, but he has been asked this question directly in interviews and merely refuses to answer it. Not exactly the answer a straight man would give. Also, he hasn't been publicly linked to many women, so I'm pretty sure he's gay.
Whoopi Goldberg

Now, I know what you're thinking...Whoopi's been married three times, so how can she be a lesbian? I might be going out on a limb with this one, but I don't think that just being married necessarily means you're a heterosexual. Some people fight their sexuality harder than others. I believe that Whoopi falls into this category.

Okay, so there you have it. I guess all we have to do now is just sit and wait to see if the predictions I've made are accurate....tick, tock, tick, tock...
