I was recently honored by being asked to take part in a local initiative sponsored by the Houston Area Cadillac Dealers.  They are hosting a wonderful contest called the Cadillac Cares Challenge, whereby one of three worthy charities will be given $50,000 in advertising from Cadillac.  Now, I would really like to ask your support for one of my absolute favorite charities in the Houston area, the Children's Museum of Houston.

I can remember the first time that I partnered with the Children's Museum of Houston as a teacher.  I basically moved in there one summer to collaborate with many members of the museum's staff and other local professionals to write an award-winning children's curriculum on both Genetics and Diabetes.

This curriculum was then circulated throughout several Houston-area school districts and taught to tens of thousands of students.  What's more, the Children's Museum of Houston sponsored the entire project, with funding for this specialized curriculum coming completely from them.

Of course, the role of the Children's Museum of Houston in my community cannot be overstated.  Houston has one of the largest child populations of any city in the world.  As a matter of fact, Houston is home to over 1.5 million children and has grown 15% per year for the last 10 years.  In response to that kind of demand, the Children's Museum of Houston doubled in size in March 2009 and is home to some of the most innovative and educational exhibits for children from birth to 12 years of age.

It is now the largest children's museum in Texas, has been rated a 5-star nationwide children's museum by Citysearch.com, voted “Ultimate Kid-Friendly Attraction” in a Houston Chronicle reader’s poll, and tied for the nation’s best children’s museums No. 1 spot in Child magazine.  Need I say more?  This is one charity that is doing all it can to both educate and entertain our children, guaranteeing that they will become productive citizens in the near future.
