Tell Me Thursday (Earth Day Edition) ~ We Upgraded Our Furniture…From the TRASH!

Rate this post

In honor of Earth Day, I thought that it would be fitting to tell everyone about our recent furniture upgrade, or the ultimate reduce, reuse, recycle story!  You see, just a few weeks ago, my family and I were coming home from a night out on the town (actually, we had just went to the pizza buffet for dinner), when we were driving through our neighborhood around dusk.  Just then, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted the trash of a distant neighbor sitting out on the curb, ready for pickup the next morning.  Lo and behold, there were two chairs there.  Now, these chairs looked pretty darn nice while I was driving by at about 30 mph, and so I told my husband that we needed to go back for a better look.  It was our lucky day, for I saw that the two chairs the neighbors had set out as trash were actually nicer than the old purple recliner that currently sat in our living room!

Hello, upgrade!

So Long, Old Friend!

This recliner was one of the few possessions that my husband brought with him when we moved into our house almost four years ago and to say it was an eyesore was an understatement.  This recliner had actually been given to him by one of his best friends from his hometown and I believe that his friend had been given it from someone else as well.  It had had an illustrious career, having survived college, life after college, married life, parenting, etc., but now as I saw that bright, shiny "new" chair sitting on my neighbor's curb, I knew it was finally the end of an era...the purple recliner was finally dead.  Long live the new patterned recliner!  (At least until Riley gets older and we can finally get some brand new living room furniture!  :))

In honor of Earth Day, what's your best reduce, reuse, recycle story?

  • We got our sunroom furniture from our neighbors trash, lol. Perfectly good set of bamboo chairs. !
.-= sheila´s last blog ..This is the way we brush your teeth…. =-.

  • We've done that! The desk under this computer was retrieved from the trash! Finds like that are great!

  • I decided that I wanted to give you a poke and say thanks for the interesting content. It's a pleasure to see internet users that still make the effort to put good informationon the web, instead of beating the dead horse of spun content to populate their blog with drivel. I bookmarked this site and want to see the great work continue. Thanks again.

  • Ha, ha! Long live the trash pickers! My front yard is currently littered with plastic butter bowls, lunch boxes and cake pans. I decided to reuse my plastic "trash" for planting my seed starters! The containers are currently full of tiny little seedlings sprouting towards the sun!

    • Ha Ha! Glad to hear it! You know what they say, "One man's trash is another man's treasure!" Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!
