Educational InsightsMath always seems to be one of those subjects which gives kids the most trouble, and it's been my experience that fractions pose some of the greatest difficulty.  Educational Insights has created a fun and easy way to reinforce the concept of fractions, as well as integrate some basic Science tools, with their Fraction Formula game.

Now children can experience the logic behind fractions using some wonderful manipulatives and have a great time in the process.  I recently had the chance to review this math-based game.  Keep reading to learn more!

I reviewed the Fraction Formula game from Educational Insights, which retails for $24.99.

Educational Insights Fraction Formula

The Fraction Formula game from Educational Insights is designed for 2-4 players, ages 8 years old and up.  It comes complete with 4 graduated cylinders, 52 fizzy fraction tiles, 52 fraction game cards and 20 scoring cards of various denominations.  The object of the game is to get the closest to 1 in each round without going over.  You play 4 rounds and whoever has earned the most points after completing the 4 rounds is declared the winner.

What's great about this game is that it's actually a lot of fun and incorporates many different useful skills.  For instance, you must estimate how close you are to 1 before deciding whether or not you'd like to draw a card and thus be forced to add a fizzy fraction tile to your graduated cylinder.  You must also predict and problem solve to figure out the probability of drawing a tile which would cause you to go over and how close you are to 1 in comparison to the other people playing the game.

As if that weren't enough, the Fraction Formula game has such wonderful teaching manipulatives included that there are several great activities to do while not playing the game, for extra reinforcement.  There is a thinking and reasoning game whereby children are to come up with different combinations of fractions which all equal to one exactly.  You can even use two or more graduated cylinders to compare and contrast different tile combinations to equal the same amount, such as 1/2 or 3/4.

There is no doubt in my mind that any child's math skills will not only improve, but will excel through constant practice with the Fraction Formula game from Educational Insights.  With this learning tool, your child can successfully sharpen their math skills all summer long and never be the wiser!  Pretty sneaky, huh?  .
