Since becoming a stay-at-home mom to my daughter three years ago, I've noticed that our living room has slowly but surely been transformed into Riley's playroom.  I'll have to admit that it's much more convenient to have all her playthings here in the family room, but honestly, it's beginning to cramp my style.  Our living room is the place where friends and family come to visit and it needed a major overhaul.

The original vision I had for our living room space was to give it a cozy old-world, yet classic feel.  The walls are painted a deep red with a black fireplace, trim and furnishings.  There are also many scroll and floral accents throughout that encompass tan, gold or other shades of brown.

The moment I laid eyes on the Mohawk Home Multicolor Decorator's Choice Area Rug in the Empress Garden pattern, I just knew that this would be the perfect piece to unite all the colors and elements together that were already in my living room.  This woven 8' x 10' rug is constructed of 100% olefin and is designed with a superior weave for extra durability.  It is stain, soil and fade resistant, which are essential characteristics for a living room rug that will undergo maximum wear and tear.

I just can't get over the Empress Garden pattern itself and how perfect a match it was to my living room's decor.  The deep reds and burgundies definitely complement our home's red walls while the black background of this area rug pops against our taupe carpeting.  The intricate border around this rug as well as the complex floral design in various shades of brown and gold make it seem like the Mohawk Home Empress Garden Area Rug was custom made for my living room!

  • I found not one but five rugs I'd love to put in the house. We are currently doing the floors in my home and just finished the dinning room area which I have a round table and would love the Mohawk Concord Brown 8 ft. Round Area Rug to put under the table. The kitchen will be finished hopefully if all goes well tomorrow morning and I have accented the room with roosters and found an adorable Bergerac Rooster Neutral 20 in x 45 in Accent Kitchen Rug to put in front of the sink area.
