Olasonic My husband and I are huge music fanatics and are constantly playing music in one form or another in our home.  Currently, we have a large sound system we use to play the radio or a CD, as well as our entertainment center to play our collection of mp3 players and iPods.  We even use Pandora and our Blu-ray player to blast a variety of songs too.

Unfortunately, the one chink in our musical armor has to be with the music we try and play through our laptops.  Neither one of us have ever owned a top-quality set of speakers designed to pair with a computer before and since the discovery of Spotify, this has become a major problem!

Thankfully, the folks at Olasonic have designed a USB-powered speaker system employing the latest cutting-edge technology.  Now you can receive high-fidelity sound from two speakers that operate automatically without the need for a discrete power supply.  Keep reading to learn more!

I reviewed the TW-S7 USB Powered Computer Speakers in Black from Olasonic, which retail for $129.99 but are currently on sale for $99.99 with FREE SHIPPING.

The TW-S7 Speaker System features plug-and-play capability with Windows and Macintosh personal computers over a single USB cable.  The device installs automatically without the need for special drivers or software.  Personal computers routinely transfer digital signals with no loss or corruption of data, but most PC speakers were not designed for high-quality digital to analog conversion.  The TW-S7 speaker system receives a direct USB digital audio signal, amplifies it and converts it to high-resolution stereo sound with minimum added noise and distortion in order to reveal the full potential of a personal computer to deliver high-fidelity, audiophile sound.

The TW-S7 employs the revolutionary Super Charged Drive System (SCDS) to achieve 10W+10W peak dynamic output while consuming only 2.5W of power.  SCDS operates similar to the drive system in a hybrid car, storing electrical charge during periods of low signal output and then releasing it during periods of higher signal output to achieve greater dynamic output on a continuous basis.  Use of a newly developed high-efficiency digital amplifier and powerful speaker unit enable the TW-S7 to achieve remarkable output in comparison to other USB powered speaker systems.

Robust bass reproduction is essential for heartfelt musical enjoyment.  The compact form factor of the TW-S7 conceals a 60mm diameter long stroke speaker unit and jointly co-developed passive radiator positioned along the same axis.  This passive radiator employs bass resonance to provide acoustic bass reinforcement.

Speaker systems employ one of four basic approaches to bass reproduction.  A flat buffer speaker system requires a very large front panel.  An ecapsulated system requires a very large box.  A bass reflex system is constrained by the length of the port employed to generate vibration.  A passive radiator, essentially a speaker with no driver magnet, provides an ideal solution for a compact speaker system.

High quality silicone insulator stands absorb vibration and all for fine-tuning of the angle of speaker orientation to provide a sharp listening point essential for a near-field listening environment.

I couldn't wait to take the new Olasonic TW-S7 USB-powered PC speakers I received for a spin and was thrilled at how quick and easy it was to get them set up and playing music.  Simply connect the two speakers together via the mini-plug on the right speaker and then insert the USB plug into a free port on your computer.

Make sure that you have placed the included silicone insulators underneath each speaker so that each can then be adjusted for an even better listening experience.  There's no software to install either, for this device is strictly plug-n-play.  The Olasonic TW-S7 speakers offer the following features:

  • Simple USB-only connection
  • USB powered, needs no electrical outlet
  • Massive magnet speaker unit
  • High-performance digital amplifier
  • Passive radiator for deep bass reproduction
  • Aerodynamic design for ideal sound field

I decided to play a CD in my computer's drive and the first thing I noticed was how really loud the speakers were!  I hadn't realized how much power these little guys could deliver and I had to immediately turn the Olasonic PC speakers down to a level around 12.  Once I did that, the speakers stopped vibrating and began delivering amazing sound!

A level 12 might sound awful low, but not with the Olasonic TW-S7 speakers.  The sound was quite loud even at 12 and would be great for a party or outdoor event where you were trying to blast some great party music.  A comfortable listening level for everyday use would probably be around a 4 or 5.

I found that I needed to adjust the speakers a tad, which is possible to do through your computer's control panel settings.  Once I did that, the Olasonic TW-S7 PC speakers truly sounded phenomenal.  The highs were crisp and clear, the mids were mixed nicely and blended perfectly in with the bass-thumping lows.  I'm ecstatic that now, thanks to Olasonic, my husband and I can fill our home with wonderful music no matter what device we choose to play it on!
