Colossal Christmas Countdown:

66 Days Until Christmas!

Huge meals with family and friends are some of my favorite parts of the holidays.  But let's face it, all of that cooking, baking and eating does a number on my dishwasher!  I hate washing dishes by hand, but I have no choice after a big Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.  I have so many pots and pans to wash, plus a ton of plates, glasses, bowls and flatware to wash too.  I've been tempted in the past to have everyone eat off of paper plates and use plastic utensils and cups, but these items aren't good for the environment and they also just look way too tacky to use for a festive holiday meal.

Recently though, I discovered a company, called VerTerra, which will save me from being chained to the sink washing dishes all night.  They make a high-quality and extremely sturdy line of disposable dinnerware made from fallen leaves.  Now I can toss these in the compost pile after dinner and skip washing all of those dirty plates and bowls!  I believe the holidays have just gotten a little brighter!

I reviewed the following from VerTerra:

Party Perfect Medium 8" Plates (Set of 8), which retail for $6.99

Party Perfect 6" x 8" Bowls (Set of 8), which retail for $5.49

VerTerra has created an entire line of unique, eco-friendly, disposable dinnerware using only fallen leaves, steam, heat and pressure.  As a matter of fact, VerTerra dinnerware is so environmentally safe, they are actually 100% biodegradable and are guaranteed to break down within two months all by themselves.  They contain absolutely no chemicals or additives and are sterilized at least 3 times before making their way to you, so they are completely safe for dining on and ready to use right out of the package.

They are also perfect for using with liquids and sauces and even act as an insulator, so hot foods will not burn you through the plate or bowl.  VerTerra dinnerware is also microwave and oven safe, so you can successfully reheat your food using these dishes as well.

This dinnerware is also extremely lightweight and very durable.  I feel comfortable putting the heaviest of food on these plates and wouldn't worry at all about them bending or breaking.  As a matter of fact, they are so strong that I would consider hand-washing them for using again and again, even though this is not recommended by VerTerra.

VerTerra dinnerware is also very stylish!  I love the square plates and bowls and the wood grain design and earthy colors match my dining room decor perfectly.  They look so good, in fact, that I had to do a double take and even verify from the packaging that these plates and bowls were truly disposable.

Just compare the benefits of using VerTerra dinnerware over any other environmentally friendly dishes out there.  As you can see from the chart below, VerTerra has them all beat, hands down!

I am so excited to be able to cut a few corners this Thanksgiving and serve my family's feast on VerTerra dinnerware instead of my usual dishes.  Now, I will be able to enjoy more time with my family, instead of scrubbing a never-ending pile of dirty dishes!

Since VerTerra dinnerware will actually enhance the plant growth in my compost pile, once my family has finished eating, I will just toss these plates and bowls into the compost bin and RELAX!  Click here for more information on how to start your own compost pile!
