JetBlue and PBS Kids Soar with Reading ProgramIn 2011, JetBlue and PBS KIDS teamed up to launch Soar with Reading, an award-winning program, designed to excite and inspire kids’ imaginations to take flight through reading.  This summer, Soar with Reading is proud to be back for a second year, so that we can all join in on another reading adventure! In addition to providing literacy based activities and games, JetBlue and PBS KIDS are committed to doing their part to impact and enrich the lives of children in all of the communities they serve.

Unfortunately, too many children don't have access to resources that enrich learning and encourage reading.  A recent study shows that there is only one age-appropriate book available for every 300 children living in underserved communities in the United States. That’s less than 1% of the number books available to children in middle-income neighborhoods.

JetBlue and PBS Kids Soar with Reading ProgramTo help address this critical shortage, JetBlue and PBS KIDS have launched a new grant program designed to provide books directly to the children who need them most.  Together with your help and the support of select local PBS member stations in BlueCities across the U.S., Central America and the Caribbean, the Soar with Reading program will provide age-appropriate books for thousands of children in need.

  • Visit SoarwithReading.com to access free summer reading materials, including an interactive reading list, reading tips and expert advice.
  • Up to $200,000 worth of books will be donated through this program.
  • As a special thank you, all adults who share their favorite book title on the site can also be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a JetBlue Getaways vacation package.
  • Separately, kids traveling with JetBlue this summer can also receive a free activity booklet with literacy-based PBS KIDS games.

Join them in their mission to open new worlds for kids, through the joy of reading!  Just share the name of your favorite children’s book, and for every submission, JetBlue will donate an age-appropriate book to a child in need through their partner, Barefoot Books.

Disclosure:  I received a promotional item from JetBlue and PBS KIDS to thank me for my participation, which was then donated to a Houston-area Middle School.
I'm a former 7th grade Science teacher turned stay-at-home mom that lives in Houston, Texas. I am married to my college sweetheart and have a beautiful daughter named Riley, who definitely keeps me on my toes! I am also involved in starting a small business which would both manufacture and sell an invention that I've patented, called Toothpaste 2 Go. I love interacting with my readers and hope to learn as much about you as you learn about me!
