Having a small dog and an active toddler means that in my house, clean floors are rarely clean for long! Because of the frequent "oopsies" that occur, I rely heavily on the handheld style of vacuum because it's light, portable and easily within reach.
Unfortunately, most handheld vacuums have severe limitations regarding their suction power and ability to clean floors and carpets, without being down on your hands and knees the entire time. Dyson, one of the leaders in manufacturing state of the art vacuum cleaners, allowed me to review their newest creation, the DC35 Digital Slim Multi-Floor Vacuum.
Keep reading to learn more about it as well as whether or not it worked well in my house!
When I first removed the Dyson DC35 Digital Slim Multi-Floor Vacuum from its box, the first two things I noticed was how lightweight this vacuum was, weighing in at around 5 pounds, and how neat it looked! I thought it resembled a futuristic space gun of some kind, which would definitely make cleaning seem a little bit more fun.
The Dyson DC35 was ready to go right out of the box. As you can see in the upper left picture, it came with a rechargeable battery pack (already attached), a crevice tool attachment, a combination tool attachment, a motorized brush roll attachment, detachable long-reach wand, charging station and instruction guide.
I decided to try out the combination tool attachment first and inserted this tool onto the end of the DC35. With the attachments connected directly to the Dyson unit itself, this vacuum automatically becomes handheld. Connect the attachments to the end of the long-reach wand first, and now you have a stick-vac. Now that's cleaning versatility!
I really liked the combination tool, since the soft bristle brush could be extended, so as to use on delicate surfaces like painted baseboards and molding, or retracted so that there was merely a large vacuum end exposed, and of course, I was thrilled about the motorized brush-roll cleaning head. I couldn't wait to see what the Dyson could do on my hard-to-clean carpeted areas, such as the stairs and under the chairs and couch. Next, I plugged in the battery to a power source for 3.5 hours so that it would be fully charged.
The Dyson DC35 can clean for up to 15 minutes on one battery charge depending on which level of suction power you choose. By pushing the MAX button, you can either select low suction (giving you 15 minutes of cleaning power with the crevice or combination attachments, or 13 minutes of power with the motorized brush-roll attachment), or high suction (reducing your cleaning time to 6 minutes).
The high suction feature actually gives you a 70% suction power boost over using only the low suction option. Also, because all Dyson vacuums utilize Root Cyclone technology, you can be sure that you will experience absolutely no loss of suction as you clean.
Just check out the video below to see how well the Dyson cleaned both my ceramic tile and carpeted stairs, using various attachments as well as both levels of suction.
One thing I've always hated about the handheld vacuum we've used in the past is cleaning it after the job was done. That's why I was so pleased to find that Dyson has thought of everything with the DC35. You don't have to touch anything dirty when cleaning this vacuum! Simply push down on the red button located on the side of the vacuum and the bottom automatically pops open, dispensing everything you have collected right into the garbage.
You also don't have to worry about buying expensive bags or new filters, for the Dyson DC35 uses a washable filter, which only needs to be cleaned once a month!
What can I say? I love the Dyson DC35! It is so versatile and can be used easily both in and out of your home. I can't wait to tackle both of our cars using this vacuum. Being both a handheld and a stick vacuum, as well as rechargeable, means that you get the ultimate in versatility, while still getting the high-powered cyclonic cleaning action that's characteristic of all Dyson vacuums. Now that's a winning combination!
