Shushybye Generally, I'm not the biggest fan of children's story books.  It seems that most of them are created with minimal thought and effort and the stories are pretty predictable and boring.  Sometimes, I think ANYONE could write a children's story and get it published...but just then, a really good book comes along and I have to rethink my position.

Shushybye is a magical world that I was completely unaware existed.  I am grateful that I got the chance to peek inside this world and introduce it to my daughter, Riley.  Read on to see why Shushybye is different from the rest of the nonsense in children's story books.

I was sent the "Shushybye: Close Your Eyes" book from The Shushybye Company, which costs $9.30 and the "Shushybye and Goodnight: The Deluxe Edition" music CD, which costs $8.99.

First, I read the "Shushybye: Close Your Eyes" book to Riley and as I read, I fell in love with the magic that is Shushybye land, which is located on top of a cloud, high in the sky.  The Shushies are a group of colorful characters who fill your child's Dream Boxes every night with wonderful dreams and then deliver them to your child on the Shushybye Train while your child is sound asleep.

If your child stays up past their bedtime, which is the case with Leo and Leona, the children in this book, then your child will miss out on what their special Shushy put in their Dream Box for them that night.

This story was very creative and interesting from beginning to end.  I really enjoyed the characters and effort that went into creating the Shushybye world.  Riley, being only 19 months old, was unavailable for comment, though she did listen intently to the story as I read it to her.  :)  The story book also comes with a CD which contains three parts.

The first part is an upbeat, Shushybye song which is intended to engage the child, give them a little time to dance around and let them know that the Shushybye story is about to be read to them.  The second part is the narrated story read aloud on the CD and then finally, the CD ends with the Shushybye lullaby.  This song is very slow and relaxing and sure to lull any youngster to sleep.  I think the accompanying CD is a wonderful addition to the "Shushybye: Close Your Eyes" book and makes it easy for any parent to transition their child from wild and active to ready for bed.

Finally, I also reviewed the "Shushybye and Goodnight: The Deluxe Edition" music CD.  Upon listening to this CD, it was not what I was expecting.  I thought that possibly this CD would be filled with Shushybye lullabies so that your child could have this CD playing while they were trying to get to sleep.  But, it was quite the opposite.  This CD is definitely not intended for that.

There were plenty of upbeat, lively songs which would keep your children's toes tapping!  The thing that I liked about this CD was that the songs were from all different musical genres.  There were some songs that had a country music feel, some were jazzy and there was even a song with a Latin beat to it.  If you are considering purchasing this CD, know that it should be something your child will listen to when they are NOT trying to get to sleep!

I love how The Shushybye Company has accomplished two feats with their Shushybye collection.  They've created interesting, colorful stories which will entertain children, and they help parents tackle one of the toughest chores...getting their child to WANT TO GO TO SLEEP!

The "Shushybye: Close Your Eyes" book with CD is a well-crafted children's story that works much in the same way that Santa Claus does on Christmas Eve.  My mother used to always tell me that if Santa passed over my house and I wasn't asleep, he wouldn't stop and deliver my presents.  This was all the impetus I needed to get my behind to bed and try really hard to fall asleep.

The Shushies live in a magical place where they deliver Dream Boxes to your children too...but only if they're asleep when it's bedtime.  Otherwise, they miss out.  This is brilliant!  The Shushybye Company has managed to bring the magic of Santa Claus to every day, so that your children will actually look forward to bedtime!  What a terrific concept!
