Even though I've always thought myself to be up on the latest technology, I must admit that I'm a late learner to the whole "there's an app for that" craze.  I'm just now beginning to discover the wonderful world of apps, since getting my first Android phone earlier this year.  There are so many practical and functional apps on the market, but recently I had the chance to interact with a brand new social and entertaining app from Podotree, called Cube Dog.

This COMPLETELY FREE app for the iPhone and iPod Touch** allows you the chance to build a lovable little 3-D pooch from the ground up and then play with him, interact with him and take him anywhere.  Keep reading more to learn all about man's new cube-shaped best friend!

Be sure to watch for a fun, new contest from Cube Dog on Facebook between June 13-17, 2011!

Anyone remember the age of the pet rock?  I was just a little too young for that one, but as I understand it, they became wildly popular because this was a pet which required no upkeep.  You could do as much or as little as you wanted with it, unlike a real animal, which requires a ton of love and care.  The Cube Dog app works in much the same way as the pet rock...you can do as much or as little as you want with it!

First, the fun part about Cube Dog is that you get to build your own pup from its little paws to its cube-shaped head.  Think an owner and his pet usually look alike?  Well, with over 1.3 million different combinations, there might just be a cube dog out there that resembles YOU!

The really fun part though is interacting with your Cube Dog once he's built and you've bestowed him a really cool name.  Your 3-D doggie can live and breath in his own little 3-D environment and with a simple pinch and swipe, you can even rotate him so that he can be seen from any angle.  Want to see an example?  Then, check out the video below:

Cube Dog has over 40 special tricks that he can perform...typical dog stuff like rolling over, playing fetch, etc., but this dog can also thwart a ninja attack and play baseball too!  The coolest part is that your cube dog can literally go anywhere you do and it can be proven.

Here's how...the background of the Cube Dog app works with the camera on your device so that Cube Dog can sit on your lawn chair, on your pet, your child or your own head.  All of these cool pics can then be uploaded directly to Facebook to share with other Cube Dog lovers.  With the brand new Cube Dog app, man's best friend has been taken to a whole new level of fun!

** Cube Dog is currently compatible with the following hardware devices: iPhone® 3GS, iPhone® 4, iPod touch® (3rd generation), and iPod touch® (4th generation). All compatible devices must be running iOS 4.0 or higher.  To be able to use the “on-location” photo feature, your iOS device must have a camera enabled.  However, even if it doesn’t have one, Cube Dogs are still great fun. **

Disclosure:  While Cube Dog provided me with the app to review, the opinions I've expressed here are solely my own and represent my honest viewpoint. Cube Dog, Clever Girls Collective and I promote Blog With Integrity.
