Sun Protection Zone SunSkinz UV ProtectionSummer is around the corner and now that Riley is walking and running all over the place, I know that we will be spending ALL of our time outside!  I'm a little concerned about this, because here in Texas, summer time means a TON OF SUN TIME!  I have really fair skin and Riley seems to have inherited that from me.  Also, her father has a history of cancer in his family, so I can't ignore some startling statistics:

  • 1 in 5 Americans are victims of skin cancer
  • 90% of skin cancer is caused by the sun’s harmful rays

Sunscreen is great, but I'm always so afraid that it will be rubbed, sweated or washed off.  I'm also fearful that I will miss some spots when applying the sunscreen or forget to reapply it when it's time to.  For these valid reasons, I'm so glad that I got the chance to review the SunSkinz girls' short sleeve rash guard shirt.

The girls' short sleeve rash guard SunSkinz shirt sells for $18.00 each.
For a VERY LIMITED TIME, the Sun Protection Zone is offering all Mommy Living the Life of Riley readers an extra 10% off of their order by using coupon code "mommyblog".  Hurry for this offer expires on 4/30!

Sun Protection That Doesn't Wash Off!

I received the SunSkinz girls' short sleeve rash guard shirt from the Sun Protection Zone to facilitate my review.  The first thing I noticed when I took it out of its packaging was how colorful and lightweight it was.  This shirt was made of a high-density yarn which dries quickly and holds up well against both chlorine and salt water.  Of course, the thing I liked best was that it offered my daughter sun protection of 100 SPF!

Most clothes offer only 10 SPF protection, which is why for long-term sun exposure, you should apply sunscreen underneath your clothes as well...but honestly, I've never done that in my life!  With the SunSkinz shirt, I know my daughter is protected well from the sun's harmful rays while wearing it.

When I put it on Riley, the first thing she did was rub her hands up and down on it.  She loved how slick it felt!  She kept pulling at it because it was so stretchy and sliding her hands up and down on it.  I think she really enjoyed wearing this shirt.  It also felt like it would dry super quick should it get wet, which would be a plus for keeping her cool in the summertime.

I noticed that there was even a write-on strip on the inside of her shirt where you could write her name for easy identification at the pool, beach, etc.  I think that this shirt is super cute and colorful and knowing that she's fully protected from the sun's harmful rays while wearing this outside, makes me sure that this shirt is a winner!

STRENGTHS:

  • Four-way stretch fabric is comfortable to wear
  • Dries quickly
  • Can stand up well to both saltwater and chlorine
  • Provides 100SPF protection
  • Identification strip inside garment
  • Cute and colorful design

WEAKNESSES:

  • The mock turtleneck comes up a little high and sometimes gets in the way when the child is looking down

With summer on our heels, all parents have to start thinking about adequate sun protection for their children.  SunSkinz takes the worry out of that by providing 100 SPF protection with their clothing line.  These clothes are durable, comfortable, colorful and fun to wear.  They also will stand up well to both chlorine and salt water.  When Riley is outside this summer, it will always be in her SunSkinz!
