Special Opportunity to Give Back to the Devastated People of Haiti through the Heart of Haiti Project

Exactly one year ago today, Haiti was devastated by a catastrophic 7.0 earthquake with at least 52 aftershocks of at least 4.5 occurring in the weeks to follow.  This earthquake affected over 3 million human beings, with 230,000 dead, 300,000 injured and another 1,000,000 people left homeless.  I can't even begin to imagine this level of destruction and ruin and how the people of Haiti must feel.

In order to help the people of Haiti recover from this natural disaster, Willa Shalit founded the Heart of Haiti project.  Keep reading to learn much more and what you can do to help!

ABOUT THE HEART OF HAITI PROJECT

The Heart of Haiti Project is an initiative founded by Willa Shalit (daughter of Gene Shalit) and her company, Fairwinds Trading, a for-profit company that uses business as a strategy for economic empowerment of people, especially women, in the Majority World. The Majority World is where two billion of the world’s three billion people live, in poverty.

Their focus on women as a preferred partner is based in part on their history, in part on their leadership as a woman-owned firm, and in part on evidence that raising the standard of living for women has the greatest positive multiplier effect within families, communities and cultures. Our mission is to connect cultures through business, art and understanding.

Through a partnership with Macy’s, Heart of Haiti offers artisan-crafted decorative arts and jewelry for sale. All income derived from sales of the products on the Heart of Haiti site enhances an artisan’s family’s nutrition, educates children, and brings access to healthcare and dignity.

There are so many beautiful, handmade items for sale through the Heart of Haiti project and every purchase made is a win-win solution.  Your purchase will not only bring happiness and joy into your life, but also those of the devastated Haitian people.  Join me in commemorating the one year anniversary of the Haiti earthquake with a purchase from the Heart of Haiti project!

Disclosure:  I was selected for this very special “CleverHaiti” opportunity by Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity. All opinions are my own.
Melissa @ Mommy Living the Life of Riley: I'm a former 7th grade Science teacher turned stay-at-home mom that lives in Houston, Texas. I am married to my college sweetheart and have a beautiful daughter named Riley, that definitely keeps me on my toes! I am also involved in starting a small business which would both manufacture and sell an invention that I've patented, called Toothpaste 2 Go. I love interacting with my readers and hope to learn as much about you as you learn about me!
