End of Summer SavingsThough you may be mourning the inevitable end of summer, you can still celebrate with savings on many essential home goods. Retailers are gearing up for winter weather and holiday shopping by marking down warm-weather staples like plants, lightweight bedding and patio furniture. Read on for a list of items you'll get great deals on before the cold front sweeps in.

1. Plants and Shrubs

Since fall represents harvest time, you can save on everything from plants to potting soil as home-improvement stores chomp at the bit to bring in their winter merchandise. Flowers like tulips and daffodils are best planted in the fall for spring blooming, while mums add instant color to your garden.

2. Vacuums

Spring cleaning is still far away, but look for savings on vacuums and other house-cleaning essentials this month. Grab a coupon code from FreeShipping.org to get $10 off select Dyson vacuums at Home Depot through Aug. 29. You can also get $10 off orders of $75 or more from Kmart, or free shipping on vacuums, steam mops and floor cleaners from Sears through Aug. 25.

3. Patio Furniture

Now is definitely the best time to purchase patio furniture. Retailers consider the season for sitting outside already over and want to remove this bulky inventory from their sales floors. Target doesn't sell patio furniture in their stores anymore, but still offers items online. The $25 shipping fee is easier to swallow when you're paying 50-percent of retail cost for this season's hottest sets.

4. Pots and Pans

August is still a popular month for weddings, so pick up presents like pots, pans and dinnerware before they get marked up for the holidays. Target is currently offering 15-percent off select T-Fal Cookware and free shipping on all T-Fal, Air Bake and WearEver items through Aug. 25. You can also find great prices on these kitchen essentials at such discount retailers as Ross, TJMaxx and Marshall's.

5. Bedding

Back-to-school sales often include bedding to cater to the college crowd. Thankfully, you don't have to be moving into a dorm to take advantage of these deals. The White Sale at Kohl's ends soon (Aug. 23), but you can still find great deals on bedding from online e-Retailers like Overstock.

6. Big Appliances

Labor Day sales are just around the corner, but some retailers are providing early enticement with discounts on big appliances. Lowe's is offering 10 to 25-percent off major appliances through Sept. 3, and Sears is offering free local shipping and haul away on appliances priced over $499 through Aug. 25.
