Colossal Christmas Countdown ButtonWhat to Give...The Hard-to-Buy-For People on Your Christmas List!

We all have those people on our gift-giving list that are impossible to buy for.  We rack our brains trying to figure out the perfect gift for them every year.  Here are some great suggestions for those difficult loved ones:

  1. The Friends with Expensive Tastes: "Think small, but deliver big," says Robyn Freedman Spizman, author of The Giftionary.  If she likes designer duds, get a designer wallet or key chain.
  2. The Friend Who's Struggling: Parents appreciate knowing that their children can continue the activities they love.  So spring for soccer lessons or the YMCA membership (check with parents first).  Or offer to babysit.
  3. The Friend Who Has Everything: "People love gifts that offer them a better way of doing something," says Spizman.  What does she do regularly?  Does she cut flowers with scissors?  Try a travel mug or rose clippers.
  4. The Person Who Never Likes Anything: More of what you're sure she does like:  a certain scent, etc.
  5. Mom and Dad: Hobby gifts.  Ask someone with the same hobby what's the best gift he's ever gotten.  A runner might tell you about a great wrist key holder; a knitter, an extravagant yarn.

Colossal Christmas Countdown Holiday EventHow to Wrap Everything: Part II!

Clever ways to create the prettiest packaging for gifts of any size and shape.

  1. Glittered Boxes: Give cardboard jewelry boxes a ruby-slipper-inspired makeover and you won't even need wrapping paper.  Brush the tops with acrylic paint to cover the label; let dry.  Apply craft glue, and then sprinkle on glitter in the same shade as the paint.  For extra sparkle, finish with metallic ribbon or embroidery floss.

Colossal Christmas Countdown Holiday EventLend a Hand All Year 'Round!

Volunteering during the holidays gets kids in the habit of helping those in need, but so many families do it that most charities see a huge surge in donations and participation each December - it's every other time of the year that they need attention.  Here, three ways to get your family to do good and keep up the bighearted action in the off-season.

  1. Start a Charity Tradition Idea #1: Many churches and soup kitchens prepare Christmas dinners for the needy; just call ahead to find out how your crew can pitch in.

Colossal Christmas Countdown Holiday Event

This cheery fellow won't have a chance to melt - he'll be gobbled up too quickly!  And as is true of any snowman, dressing him is half the fun.  We've suggested a few fashionably edible choices, but he's equally festive in other tasty apparel.

Ingredients:Frosty-the-Cheese-Ball

  • 16 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 10 raisins for eyes, mouth and buttons
  • 1 piece of carrot for the nose
  • 4 crackers for the hat (we used Ritz and Dare water crackers)
  • 1 thyme sprig for the hat (optional)
  • Strips of carrot for the scarf
  • 2 broken pretzels for the arms
  • 1 (1/2 inch) piece of canned baby corn for the pipe
  • Toothpick for the pipe

Directions:

In a large bowl, let the cream cheese soften at room temperature for about 30 minutes.  Stir in the garlic salt and the onion powder, then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill for 2 hours.  Make the snowman by rolling two-thirds of the cheese into a ball for his body and the other third into a ball for his head.  Stack the balls, then add the facial features, clothing, arms and pipe as shown.  Serve with crackers or mini bagels.

Rothschild Kids

Colossal Christmas Countdown:

It's Christmas Eve!

Now, that winter is officially here, you may be shopping for a new coat or jacket for your little one.  Since they grow so fast when they're tikes, a winter coat is an annual necessity, for there's usually no way they can wear the same jacket two years in a row.

I'm always on the hunt for a winter jacket which looks just as cute and snuggly as Riley and at Rothschild Kids, they have a wide variety of affordable coats which do just that!  Recently, I had the opportunity to review the Sporty Snowflake Winter Jacket in Raspberry.  Keep reading to learn all about it!

I reviewed the Sporty Snowflake Winter Jacket in Raspberry from Rothschild Kids, which retails for $55.00.

Umi Shoes

Colossal Christmas Countdown:

1 Days Until Christmas Eve!

My daughter has had a shoe fascination since she was just a little bitty baby.  Actually, "shoes" was the first real word she spoke!  I guess when you're a baby and you're at ground level most of the day, you get to see a lot of shoes coming and going.  Riley has even made taking her shoes off and on a game and loves to play with her shoes like toys from time to time.

So, when I saw the high quality, adorable looking shoes offered by Umi Shoes, I just knew that Riley would want to wear a pair.  Keep reading to see if I was right!

I reviewed the June Bug Boots in Purple from Umi Shoes, which retail for $61.00.
