My daughter Riley, who just turned two, is on the verge of moving out of the crib and into her very own twin-sized bed! The thought is both exhilarating and scary all at the same time...for both of us. The one thing I do know for certain is that I want her to have a super cute and adorable bedding set to help get her excited about the new transition.
I searched all over the internet and found several wonderful solutions, but once I spied the Monkey Business Quilt Bedding Set from Company Kids, I knew this is the one Riley would think was top banana! Company Kids generously allowed me to review both the twin-sized quilt and standard pillow sham too. Keep reading to find out more!
Riley is a huge fan of animals and monkeys definitely top her list of favorite animals. Since her father and I frequently call her our "silly little monkey" and we often sing the "Monkeys on the Bed" song together, I thought that Riley would adore the Company Kids Monkey Business Quilt Bedding Set, for it reminds me of that song come to life.
This bedding set is perfect for younger children, tweens and teens alike, for the pastel colors used are perfectly girly without appearing too immature. Also, the cartoon monkey is funny and lively, yet doesn't seem like something that would be used in a nursery. Interspersed throughout this block-style quilt are several bright pink flowers which add an extra subtle touch of femininity.
Personally, I loved the colors! I thought the two shades of pink intermixed with lime green, purple and aqua made this bedding set extremely eye-catching and interesting. I couldn't wait to show this to Riley to see what she thought!
Riley loved the flowers and monkeys used and immediately started doing her best monkey impersonation as soon as she saw it! She also pointed out the flowers and said the word "pretty" many times. I loved how thick this quilt was and how it actually resembled the loft somewhere between a thin quilt and a comforter. Here in Texas, I know that this will be a wonderful quilt set that Riley will be able to use year-round, for it is still thin enough that she won't overheat in the summer.
I also really liked that this 100% cotton quilt is machine washable and felt very soft too. Of course, like any cotton bedding, the more times it is washed, the softer it will become. Because I'm sure there will be many bed-wetting incidents in the near future, as Riley makes the transition from crib to twin-sized bed, I'm very thankful that this quilt set is so easy to care for.
The only thing that I didn't like at all was the stitching used on this quilt set. If you notice in the pictures I've included above, there is white stitching running throughout both the quilt itself and the standard sham. Now I'm no professional seamstress or anything, but this hand quilting is actually pretty poor, in my opinion.
The stitches are crooked and far apart and looks more like basting stitches which are done quickly and without care only because they are temporary. Unfortunately, this poor stitching is used everywhere on the Monkey Business Quilt Set. Perhaps I am being too picky and this is only a design difference which I don't care for, but I wanted to let you see an upclose picture of this set just in case, like me, you don't like the white quilting stitches used here.
