Learning Resources Riley is a huge fan of Caillou and watches that cartoon daily.  A few months ago, she saw the episode about "Magnet Man" and was instantly fascinated!  She started trying to find every magnet we had in the house and then began investigating their properties.

As a former Science teacher, I'll admit that I was proud of her newfound love of magnets and I wanted to find a toy which would really let her explore just how cool magnets can be.  Of course, that meant going to the Learning Resources website to find all of their interesting magnet-related toys.  They were generous enough to allow me to review the Primary Science Magnet Set with Riley.  Keep reading to learn more and enter to win a set for your own little scientist!

I reviewed the Primary Science Magnet Set from Learning Resources, which retails for $29.99.

The Learning Resources Primary Science Magnet Set allows your child to discover the wonders of magnetism through scientific exploration.  This set is designed for children ages 5 years old and up and builds children's understanding of basic magnetism concepts through dynamic play.  Using the Primary Science Magnet Set will help teach the following skills involving magnetism:

  • Explore similarities and differences among magnets
  • Perform activities that are both engaging and educational
  • Begin using basic vocabulary, such as attract and repel
  • Learn about magnetic poles and use this knowledge in play
The Primary Science Magnet Set from Learning Resources includes the following components along with 10 laminated, full-color activity cards:
  • Large Yellow Horseshoe Magnet
  • Magnetic Post
  • 4 Ring Magnets
  • 2 Bar Magnets
  • String
  • Tray with Maze (11"L x 8.5"W x 0.5"H)
  • 2 Magnetic Bugs
  • 2 Snap-On Cars

Riley really enjoyed exploring magnetism with the Primary Science Magnet Set.  You could just see the gears in her head turning when the two magnetic bugs would flip over as she tried to guide them using another magnet under the tray.  Her favorite activity though was watching the 4 ring magnets appear to "float in midair" while the same poles of the magnets were repelling each other on the magnetic post.  She also enjoyed how she could "invisibly push" her two cars around thanks to the same-sided poles of the bar magnets repelling each other again.

I was thrilled with this set, for it had plenty of open-ended amusement for children, but also offered 10 extremely cool activities for a more structured learning environment.  Thanks to the Primary Science Magnet Set from Learning Resources, Riley already understands the concepts of polarity, magnetic attraction and repulsion.  Not too shabby for a 3-year-old!

If your budding scientist is already showing an interest in magnets, help them take their educational play to the next level with the Primary Science Magnet Set and get ready for an adventure in magnetism!

I'm a former 7th grade Science teacher turned stay-at-home mom that lives in Houston, Texas. I am married to my college sweetheart and have a beautiful daughter named Riley, who definitely keeps me on my toes! I am also involved in starting a small business which would both manufacture and sell an invention that I've patented, called Toothpaste 2 Go. I love interacting with my readers and hope to learn as much about you as you learn about me!
