HeelysIn order to be a great mom, I think it's important to share in the same interests as your children.  Since Riley is only 2, her interests are still fairly simple.  For instance, she loves looking at rocks and picking flowers, and of course, she's always interested in whatever Elmo or the Wiggles are doing.

As she grows older though, these interests will change.  If she's at all like the middle school aged children I used to teach, she will adore Heelys skate shoes.  Watching my students toodle around campus in these shoes always looked like so much fun and I was anxious to try them out for myself...but I didn't want to fall and break anything!  Thankfully Heelys invented the HX2 shoes which are designed to be a little more adult-friendly.  Keep reading to find out how I did!

I reviewed the HX2 Jazzy 7638 Vista Blue/White Skate Shoes from Heelys, which retail for $48.99.

Heelys HX2 Jazzy Vista Blue/White Skate Shoes

The Heelys HX2 skate shoes are designed to make "learning to heel" a little easier for those of us who may be a little intimidated by the one wheel Heelys shoes.  As you can see from the picture above, the HX2 shoes contain the standard large wheel at the heel of the shoe, but also include a medium size wheel closer to the toe.  This gives you a larger surface area with which to balance on as well as make it so that you don't have to use quite as much leg strength to keep your toe up while skating about.

These shoes arrived without the wheels installed and in their place were two thick rubber stoppers instead.  One of the great things about the Heelys HX2 skate shoes is how truly versatile they are.  For instance, if you just like the look and style of these canvas and rubber-soled shoes, you can wear them as they are, without the wheels completely.

You can also install both wheels to each shoe quickly and easily, using the accompanying hand grip tool, for the easiest way to skate.  I equate this shoe configuration as a bike having its training wheels on.  Both wheels installed make the Heelys easier to learn, but once you're ready, you can remove the smaller wheel from each shoe, converting the HX2s into a pair of regular Heelys.

I really like the way these Heelys look too, for they are super cool and will match a ton of my casual outfits, from shorts to jeans to capris!  I would be lying though if I said that "learning to heel" is easy.  It will definitely take some more practice on my part before I'm really good at it.  For now though, I am working on it by wearing these while Riley and I are outside playing.  Before you know it, I will be heeling all around the neighborhood!  If you want to earn some major "cool mom" points, then I definitely recommend giving the new HX2 Heelys a try!

I'm a former 7th grade Science teacher turned stay-at-home mom that lives in Houston, Texas. I am married to my college sweetheart and have a beautiful daughter named Riley, who definitely keeps me on my toes! I am also involved in starting a small business which would both manufacture and sell an invention that I've patented, called Toothpaste 2 Go. I love interacting with my readers and hope to learn as much about you as you learn about me!
